Use quality materials and fixtures and perform construction and finishing properly and any room will last decades. Major renovations usually take place when components are dilapidated, damaged, rotting and or defective. With due care and maintenance there won't be any reason to renovate.

Tips and Suggestions

  • Never caulk crown molding to textured ceilings unless the texture has been painted, a sealer has been applied or the molding has been sufficiently fastened. Why not? Texture has very little adhesive and the ceiling surface behind it is dusty from applying the texture. When crown molding expands and contracts due to extreme seasonal changes in humidity the caulking will pull the texture off the ceiling resulting in a mess which can be difficult to repair without re texturing
  • Use stick-on felt pads on the back of wall hangings such as pictures and mirrors to prevent scratching or marking the wall finish
  • When hanging wall hangings, make your marks on low tack tape so you can make changes easily without marking the wall finish
  • Unsure? Measure twice cut once
  • Wiping down your shower after each use helps eliminate mold, mildew and harsh cleaning and the sealer will last much longer
